"Your favorite color is yellow."

I actually don't have a favorite color. I just can't pick one. I have color moods where I just become obsessed with a certain color or color scheme for awhile until I become obsessed with a different one. Sometimes it's a seasonal thing, but most times I have no idea where my color moods come from.  They're just... moods.

When I bought this yarn, I was deep into a yellow mood. I just wanted some yellow socks and it had to be this certain exact shade of yellow and nothing else would do. I spent literally hours in my local yarn store going back and forth between shades of yellow- truth be told I didn't want to buy this yarn because I wanted something less expensive and with a higher nylon content- but alas it had to be this one because this was the shade I'd been craving for weeks.

As soon as I finished these socks I was reminded of the time I met a good friend's daughter for the first time.  She was about 5 or 6 years old and had that awesome little girl sassyness that only little girls can get away with and still be considered cute. She told me she was going to draw me a picture and asked me what my favorite color was and I told her I didn't really have one- that I loved them all. She nodded once and ran off to draw me my picture. A few minutes later she came back with a picture of me wearing a yellow tutu and announced- with perfect seriousness, "Your favorite color is yellow."

And so it is... For today anyway.

The main color is called Egg Yolk and the contrast color is called Kelp- which doesn't sound all that appetizing, but at least it looks pretty. The yarn is Hedgehog Fibers and it's kind of a pain to work with, but I think it's worth it. These socks actually hug my feet.
Unfortunately the camera just can't capture the awesomeness that is this color. It really is the exact color of egg yolks.

I can't let it go...

I seriously considered deleting this blog, but I just can't! Despite the fact that I literally forget, for weeks at a time, that I still have this blog I can't just let it go. I put some werk into this blog- a long time ago- but still. And now it's become a sort of challenge. Because every time I come back here to post something I find that I have no idea what I'm doing anymore. I'm counting this as mental exercise now- putting my brain through it's paces- because I have to do things like that now- because I'm old.

Anyhoo... See my socks! I am ridiculously excited (still) about the fact that I can knit socks. This is the pinnacle, y'all. This is what all my previous knitting was for.  It was all practice so that one day I could knit myself my very own socks.

I have exactly five pairs of socks- that I knitted with my very own hands (which frequently ache when I knit too much now because I'm old.) One pair is a thick worsted slipper pair that are too thick to wear with shoes, but I'm counting them because I wear those the most because I never go anywhere anymore anyway because... I'm old. (Also because there's this pandemic- but mostly the old thing.)
My short term goal is to have seven whole pairs finished by the time the cold weather sets in- so I'm really close. Working on 2nd half of #6 right now and already have #7 and #8 planned.
My long term goal is to have an entire sock drawer of only my very own hand-knitted socks! I am not a fast knitter so this will be a very long term goal indeed, but I'm on my way!

Here is my small stack of socks all pretty and washed and ready for Fall. (Except my feet got cold so I've already worn the worsted socks and the grey work socks so I'll have to wash those again.)

Fall!!!

I love Fall and every year around this time I start getting excited and now that I live in a place that actually experiences an authentic Fall- an Actual Autumn, if you will- I get even more excited.
I just ordered some Halloween yarn so I can make some Halloween socks and that will be #9!

Okay- that's all I have to say today, but let's see if I can remember to post more than once every couple of years because I can't let this blog go!

And I will leave you with a cool pic of Mr. Boy because he's still cute as hell. (Can't believe I have a 13 year old...)
